It will be really good to be on the move early tomorrow morning. A week languishing in Addis has been enough. We have successfully applied for and collected our Djibouti visas today, having struggled through the horrendous traffic in the Enterprise twice. We plan to leave at 6am tomorrow and take the freeway south to Awash as we understand that is the quietest route with least heavy trucks. We expect to take 2 days to reach the border then hope to find a quiet place in the desert to make a flight. It is all a bit unknown.
There have been a few jobs here to keep Chris occupied. The fresh water tank had come loose again today which would have been a bigger problem if it had happened en route.
There is not much else to report. The Belgian family turned out to be French, apart from the mother. They are still here and the 3 girls have kept us entertained. Their father, Alex, coincidentally comes from Sarlat, a town close to our French house. They are still new to overlanders and Chris has been able to impart some advice. Lucas, the cyclist, had a very bad experience after leaving here and ended up putting his bike on a bus to escape Ethiopia as quickly as he could. The Polish motorcyclists made it to the border in one day but because their visas had expired they were refused to cross, had their passports confiscated and arrived back here today. They don't know what will happen next. Chris had advised them to apply for an E-visa before leaving Addis and they now regret they didn't.
Once we leave here we are not sure when we will next have internet and without a local Ethiopian SIM card we are a bit hampered. The process to register for one is more trouble than it's worth. Hopefully my next blog post will be a bit more interesting.
